Enabling older Australians to remain independent and engaged with their communities is a key social, health and economic challenge.

Optimal design of public seating that facilitates transfers from sitting to standing can help older adults stay healthy, active and involved.

The Seating Project is about developing a better understanding of how seating can impact older Australians, and partnering with key stakeholders to design solutions.

Sit to stand

The Seating Project is a multi-stage research collaboration between researchers at the University of Wollongong and the University of NSW, Australia who have expertise in health, ergonomics and human factors.

At the moment, the project is conducting an online survey of adults over 65 who live independently (rather than in a nursing home, for example).
